Boka has a mild Mediterranean climate — hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. There's no bad time to come, only different ones: for swimming, for sightseeing or for quiet. Here's how to choose.
Summer (July–August)
Peak season: warm sea, long days, everything open. It's also the time of the biggest crowds and highest prices, and Kotor can fill up when the cruise ships dock. If you love a lively atmosphere and reliably warm sea — this is your time, just book ahead.
Shoulder seasons (May–June, September–October)
For many, the best choice. The weather is warm, the sea is swimmable from June well into October, there are fewer crowds and prices are kinder. Ideal for combining the beach and sightseeing without sweating through the peak heat.
Spring and winter
Spring is green and fragrant, perfect for walks and climbing the walls. Winters are mild and quiet — some services pause, but the town belongs to the locals and those who love calm. In February Herceg Novi comes alive with the Mimosa Festival.
Events through the year
If you're planning around an event:
- Mimosa Festival (February) — Herceg Novi under the sign of the yellow mimosa
- Summer festivals and concerts in Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi
- Boka Night (August) — decorated boats and fireworks in Kotor
When the sea is warm
The sea usually warms up for swimming from mid-June and stays pleasant until mid-October, with August the warmest. The shoulder seasons give you warm sea without the summer crowds.
