Boka is small, but the coves and switchbacks make map distances deceiving. With a little planning, getting around is simple — here are all the options, from arrival to everyday trips.
Arriving — airports
The nearest is Tivat airport (TIV), right in Boka. The alternatives are Dubrovnik (DBV) in Croatia, near Herceg Novi (with a border crossing), and Podgorica (TGD) for flights from the region. For most guests Tivat is the most practical.
Airport transfer
The simplest option is to arrange a transfer in advance — the driver waits for you and takes you straight to your accommodation, with no hunting for a taxi or explaining the address. Ideal after a flight and with luggage.
Car rental
A car pays off if you plan to tour more places and the hidden beaches. Pickup is also available at Tivat airport. Bear in mind the narrow streets, summer crowds and difficult parking in Kotor and the centre — for a stay in a single town a car often isn't even needed.
The Kamenari–Lepetane ferry
The ferry across the Verige strait (Kamenari–Lepetane) cuts across the bay and greatly shortens the trip between Herceg Novi and Tivat — instead of driving all the way around the coast. It runs frequently year-round, and almost continuously in season.
By boat and by bus
Boat lines and water taxis also operate across the bay — sometimes the loveliest and fastest way to cross from one shore to the other. Coastal buses link the towns and larger places for those who don't drive.
